Jordin Tootoo entered this postseason with four playoff points, but had five in the first round.

Nashville Predators forward is seeing and reacting to the game at a higher level, because he is in his best physical condition, since he arrived in 2003 ".You see ice, read plays differently when you're in tip-top shape, and mentally everything is clear, "said Tootoo. "The game seems to decrease only slightly more. I feel so ".A compact 5-9, 197 pounds, Tootoo grew up in Rankin Inlet, Hudson Bay of Canada near the Arctic Circle, and arrived in Nashville with a well-deserved reputation as a hard hitter and Bully but five points ahead in the six-game victory in Nashville against the Ducks of Anaheim show a different side. He had four points of playoff before this season. He had four assists, including two goals in the victory, in the last two games as the predators won a postseason series for the first time in franchise history. With the scored tied 2-2 in game 6, broad Tootoo skated around Luca Sbisa of Anaheim and fired a shot on goaltender Ray Emery. Nick Spaling corralled the rebound and he fired about Emery. voluntarily checked Tootoo of the substance abuse program for the NHL on December 27. Since he returned, he set highs for points (three) and goals (two). "He is a new person, "said predators Captain Shea Weber. "This is a whole new level for it. This is some of the best hockey I've never seen him play. "Coach Barry Trotz said Tootoo dedication makes a dangerous playoff-style.I just think he has this good focus. It is difficult for the disk. He is making smart moves, all those things that you knew he was capable of doing and were getting a little frustrated at not having him reach this level, "said Trotz."He's playing well, he's focused, he's having a ball, and I think that is the key. It is an important part of our DNA integer in the playoffs. "Other heroes in the playoffsWith stars tightly controlled, the playoffs are often a time for heroes shine (think John Druce, Chris Kontos and Dave Lowry in the past). Some examples of the first round, and Tootoo: • Marc-André Gragnani, Buffalo Sabres: called until 28 March, the Defender led the Sabres in scoring with seven points in seven games. By Bruce Bennett, Getty Images

Andrej Meszaros took defensemen leaflets in points and ice time during the first round.

• Ben Smith, Chicago Blackhawks: also a convening final season, he scored the overtime goal in game 6. He had three goals and a shooting percentage position c.750 on Tuesday. • Andrej Meszaros, Philadelphia Flyers: he had solid numbers of the regular season, including a rating plus-30. But with Chris Pronger missing the start of the playoffs, he led defensemen handouts in the mean time (25: 33) and points (five). • Arron Asham, Pittsburgh Penguins: the scan-line winger leads pens with three goals. He had some clutch play last season during the execution of handouts. • Steve Downie, Tampa Bay Lightning: he has offensive capability, but he is often overshadowed by his penalty minutes. Downie has five points, including three in game 6, since sitting out game 4 with a suspension. "It is a very smart dude with the puck, but as the way he is controlling his emotions," Lightning coach Guy Boucher said after the game. "We all know that is something he has worked hard this year." • Marcus Johansson, Washington Capitals: the rookie scored twice in return for game 4 the capitals a 3-0 deficit.

Lightning prepare for ' third ' game 7 against the penguins

PITTSBURGH (AP)--the Pittsburgh Penguins have the edge in playoff experience. Tampa Bay coach Guy Boucher sees it differently, saying that the lightning have played in more game 1s this season.Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos, who scored twice in Game 5 in Pittsburgh, said, By Gene Puskar, AP

Steven Stamkos, tampa Bay, which scored twice in game 5 in Pittsburgh, said, "we won this building, and that is a good thing, because we have this confidence comes".

Steven Stamkos, tampa Bay, which scored twice in game 5 in Pittsburgh, said, "we won this building, and that is a good thing, because we have this confidence comes".

Two, actually — both in this series. "We have been a game 7," Boucher said Tuesday. "We play hockey in game 7 for the last two games, and we are about to change its attitude."The lightning won each of the last two games when facing elimination, coming back from a deficit of series 3-1 to tie the series best-of-seven first round in three games each.Game 4 is Wednesday night in Pittsburgh and this time — for the first time this postseason – the penguins know that a loss means the end of his season. "Said would have taken it into five or six, but we knew that we were playing a good opponent," Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma (FSY). "We knew we would respond. We knew that they are a group of hard work. We know what they are good at. Fully expect to be entrenched in a battle with Tampa Bay. "The lightning even haven't had to go into too much of a battle in winning the last two games at Consol Energy Center. In winning games 2 and 5, Tampa Bay outscored the penguins 15-3 During a playoff season in which the road teams have won more often than those at home, be it local? There have about the history of the franchise of the penguins. They are 2-5 in game 7s at home — they've won all five they had on the road — including losing 5-2 for Montreal in game 7 of the second round last season, the final game ever played at the Civic Arena. "We have gained in this building, and that is a good thing, because we have this confidence comes in," Lightning Center Steven Stamkos said.Only a handful of players, Tampa Bay has experience of playing in a game 7. Pittsburgh has been on three over the past two postseasons, including winning both in transit to take the Stanley Cup in 2009 ".None of us is still thinking about what happens if you lose now, "said penguins defenceman Paul Martin (FSY). "That still shouldn't get his head. We know that we are in our own building here and we know what made us successful so far and what we have done to win games. I think it is necessary to concentrate on staying positive and doing the right things, and the result will take care of itself. "The lightning are preaching a similar mantra.Boucher was pleased with how his team did not allow what it considers to be a chance to score for Pittsburgh during the final 10 minutes of game 6 on Monday. "We are facing elimination that the last two games and we came out every game with the right frame of mind and the structure was very good, said Captain Lightning Vincent macadamian (FSY). "We've just go to continue that."Tampa Bay also figures to continue the approach killing penalties likewise has after the penguins have scored just once in 30 power play opportunities.Pittsburgh power play as 25 in the NHL during the regular season — and got worse as the season went. But quarterback drive, defenseman Kris Letang (FSY), shrugged those numbers ".I think a further six games that we have as chances to score of 26 to 27 on our power play, "he said. "It's just a matter of bounce. Sometimes you get only one goal of luck or a bounce of luck and goes in, and we don't talk about the power game anymore. "Power game of penguins would certainly be better if Sidney Crosby (FSY) was in it. Crosby has not played since January because of a concussion, but that hasn't stopped Boucher for saying he prepares to Pittsburgh as if Crosby will be in programming. "I always thought that he would appear at some point ... "I'm always expecting them to play it on us, said Boucher. It is extremely unlikely, but maybe just the presence of his famous rubs the superstitious old captain organization. Bylsma is wearing the suit of luck, and singer of the old anthem of the penguins will be back for game 7 after the two defeats earlier when a fill sang. When it comes to hockey game 7, anything goes. "I feel the same way about routines like I do with the way our team will play game 7, '' Bylsma said. "I am confident that our team knows how to play the game (on Wednesday). I am confident that they know how we play to succeed ".Notes: Stamkos politely refused to discuss a report that penguins D Brooks Orpik (FSY) tried to poke your eye during a scrum in the third period of game 6. ... Despite the availability of Consol Energy Center and an apparent option for morning practice at home before your flight to Pittsburgh, the lightning practiced Tuesday in suburban track just made the day before his victory of 8-2 in game 5. ... As expected, no coach would directly changes in training can address.

Lightning goaltender Dwayne Roloson stopped Chris Kunitz, Pittsburgh, one of his 36 saves in the night.

"Obviously, he has a lot of insight (because) of what he has seen through the years," Tampa Bay coach Guy Boucher said. The Roloson wisdom, experience and expertise were crucial Wednesday as he posted 36 saves to lead Tampa Bay to a 1-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins in game 7 of the quarterfinals of the Eastern Conference best-of-seven.Lightning 5, winning a series for the first time since they captured the Stanley Cup in 2004, play the Washington Capitals in the Eastern semi-final, starting on Friday (7 p.m., Versus). "He just knows what to do in the playoffs, and he is not afraid to talk," said Tampa Bay Center Steven Stamkos. Boucher announced after the game that the lightning had dedicated the game to assistant coach Wayne Fleming, who is battling a brain tumor. Boucher praised the graciousness of the penguins, which caused the lightning had the puck after the game, so it could be submitted to the penalty of Fleming. The Lightning killing was crucial in the series, and Boucher pointed Fleming works with the killing of pity.Roloson has been as much as the Stanley Cup Final in 2006 with the Edmonton Oilers before he was injured in game 1, and it is now 6-0 in elimination games during his career. After Tampa Bay fell behind 3-1 in the series, Roloson gave four goals in three consecutive victories against Pittsburgh lightning. "Rollie brought us a lot of composure, "said Tampa Bay forward Martin St. Louis. "He is the type of goaltender who you need to win a playoff series. One of the keys to the success of Flash was allowing the goal of being able to play only one of penguins in 35 opportunities. Tampa Bay Center, Nate Thompson has a penalty with 1: 33 left in regulation, and the penguins pulled their goalie has an advantage of six four. But they couldn't resolve Roloson. Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma benched Alex Kovalev in the third period and not even using it in 6-on-4. He was acquired to help the offense of the team within the trade, but never found his game. St. Louis said he was not trying to disrespect the murderers, "but his goalkeeper is always the best penalty killer". By Gene J. Puskar, AP

Sean Bergenheim tampa Bay, right, celebrates after scoring the lone goal of the game.

Lightning forward Ryan Malone said Roloson was "suffocating" shots from the outside, not allowing second-chance opportunities.Tampa needed only one goal from Sean Bergenheim. It is not a player of great minutes or a premium top scorer, but he scored identical goals in games 6 and 7. At 5: 41 of the second period, Dominic Moore began to carry the puck behind the net and then dropped a backhand pass in the sense that it began. Bergenheim was to pass in front. He fired a quick shot at a half empty ".The entire team practicing it, but they are better at it, "said Boucher. both players were signed as free agents in the summer and that turned out to be valuable role players. Bergenheim scored 15 goals this season. "We call it the hustler because your engine is always going, "said Boucher.Com Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin both out with injuries, the penguins had often offensive struggles in second half of the season. In their four losses to Tampa, managed just five goals. For more information about reprints & permissions, visit our FAQ. Predators forward Martin Erat, left to face the Canucks says: "we can play with anyone in the League."

No sweat. Nashville split the regular-season series with the best NHL team, and outscored the Canucks 4-2 in Vancouver ".We can play with anybody in the League, "said predators forward Martin Erat (FSY). "It's all gonna be about battles and who wants more".Vancouver moved after defeating the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks in overtime in game 7 of the series quarterfinals Tuesday night. After winning the first three games of the series, Chicago won the next three to force the decisive final game. "Obviously, it was a night (Tuesday) the game exciting. They played very, very well, "said predators coach Barry Trotz. "It will be a big test".After dismissing the Ducks of Anaheim in six games, Nashville will be more rested walking cast for semifinal matchup with the Canucks. The predators have practiced in Nashville on Wednesday morning after learning that his opponent would be, and then flew to Vancouver with 1 game set for Thursday night. The additional time off will be especially beneficial for top predators defensive pairing of Ryan Suter (FSY) and Shea Weber (FSY). Suter led all predators against the ducks by an average of 27: 28 ice time per game with Webber second in 26: 29 The will be a homecoming of sorts for Weber, a native of Sicamous, British Columbia. Road predators games in this series will not only be played in the province of Weber, they also will take place in the same building where he and his fellow team Canada won the gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis has been fined by the NHL to complain about the officiating in the playoff series Vancouver s first round win against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The NHL confirmed the fine Wednesday in an e-mail to the Canadian Press. The wouldn t League reveal the amount.

On Monday, Gillis blamed the referees for the Canucks is being forced to play a game 7 against Chicago. He said that sanctions had been called against the Canucks to the Blackhawks.

He also was angry that wasn't t Chicago's Bryan Bickell a penalty for a hit on defenceman Kevin Bieksa during overtime of game 6. The Canucks won the current Stanley Cup champions 2-1 in overtime Tuesday night to win the series.

The NHL announced Monday that Weber is one of three finalists for the Norris Trophy as the League's top defenceman. Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne (FSY) and Vancouver counterpart Roberto Luongo (FSY) has been named as finalists for the Vezina trophy, honoring the NHL's best goaltender.Rinne the Canucks "have a very good offensive team, but they have a very balanced team," he said. "They gave up the fewest goals in the League, so they are very good defensively, too".Moreover, the extra days off will help heal wounds that predators are struggling after a very physical series against Anaheim. Erat missed games 5 and 6 of the series after taking a high success in the second period of game 4 from Anaheim Jarkko Ruutu (FSY), who was suspended for a game to success.Beyond the prejudice Erat calling an injury of the upper body, the predators have kept silent about the nature of that kept the 29-year-old Czech out of the lineup. Erat practiced with the team Tuesday and Wednesday and is set to return to the game. "He is making the trip, and it is ready to go, '' Trotz said. "It'll be a good add for us ".

Sizing up Boston-Montreal, Pittsburgh-Tampa Bay game 7s

USA today hockey reporter Kevin Allen sizes up two 7s game will be played Wednesday night:Michael Cammalleri has been productive for the Canadiens while the Bruins' offensive players haven't been as effective. by Jean-Yves Ahern, us Presswire

Michael Cammalleri has been productive for the Canadiens, while offensive players, the Bruins have not been so effective.

By Jean-Yves Ahern, us Presswire

Michael Cammalleri has been productive for the Canadiens, while offensive players, the Bruins have not been so effective.

Montreal Canadiens at Bruinswhat is happening: The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Boston Bruins 2-1 Tuesday to force game 7. Each game has been a game of one goal — or felt like one.Goalkeepers: Boston's Tim Thomas (3-3, 2.19 goals-against average,. 927 save percentage) vs Carey price, Montreal (3-3, 2.00.938). Thomas deserves the Vezina trophy and Carey price deserves a medal for playing brilliantly this season when facing a pressure higher than any other NHL player. He gave the Canadiens a chance in the postseason, the way since traded Jaroslav Halak made last season.Story line: This has been a series in goal, and both teams have a difference-maker in the net. But skaters over the Canadiens, Mike Cammalleri and Brian Gionta, have been more productive than Boston's best offensive players. The Bruins haven't scored on the power play, and that seemed highly disorganized at times with the extra man in game 6. The Canadiens won Game 6 because they scored two power-play goals 5-on-3. Canadiens won two road game 7s in the last season, the Bruins will have to come out aggressively to take advantage of home ice. But that can be tricky because they also must remain outside the penalty box.Who's hot: Cammalleri leads the Canadiens with three goals and six assists. What is not: Montreal C Scott Gomez has not scored in 34 games, dating back to February 5. He missed a great chance in game 6. Milan Lucic Boston LW has no goals and led to a penalty of loading face Tuesday.Bottom line: The Bruins have three goals in 10-plus periods of playing at home. If they can score three or more Wednesday night, Thomas can do the rest. Tampa Bay Lightning Pittsburgh Penguinswhat is happening: After the Pittsburgh Penguins took a 3-1 advantage in the series best-of-seven, Tampa Bay Lightning fight to force a game 7. Goalkeepers: Pittsburgh: Marc-André Fleury (3-3, 2.77 goals-against average,. 890 save percentage) vs. Dwayne Roloson Tampa Bay (3-3, 2. 05.941). Fleury was MVP-caliber in the second half of the season, but his save percentage is disabled in the playoffs. Roloson has been a stabilising force for the Lightning.Story line: The lightning is 8 to 25 on the power play, and the Penguins are 1-for-30. With its two top scorers out with injuries, pens, struggled to find the net. They are looking for someone to intensify, with Jordan Staal candidate more likely. The lightning have more offensive weapons and are using them all. Martin St. Louis, Simon Gagne, Vincent Lecavalier and Steve Downie are average at least one point of a game. After having won the Stanley Cup in 2009, the penguins must be more confident team, but the rays seem to have the most swagger and they are improving with every game.Who's hot: Downie has one goal, five assists and leads her team on more 4. What is not: Pittsburgh RW Alexei Kovalev. There is a debate among fans about whether he should be benched for game 7. He has one goal and is less than 3. He hasn't produced as pens thought he would when they picked up from the Ottawa Senators.Bottom line: The pens have to solve their shortcomings can play to win 7 games because the Lightning are better than scoring three goals a game. For more information about reprints & permissions, visit our FAQ. Pavel Datsyuk, Detroit won a faceoff from Eric Belanger from Phoenix, is in the race for a fourth consecutive Selke trophy

But the Detroit Red Wings Center Pavel Datsyuk is still in the race for a fourth consecutive title. He, Kesler and Chicago Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews on Wednesday were named finalists for the top defensive forward. The chances of Datsyuk probably were injured because he was limited to 56 games because of various injuries. Still, the key player in the game puck-control of the Red Wings finished 11th in the League with 71 points and earned 54.6% of his faceoffs.Kesler played a big role in Canucks ending with a differential of goal League-best plus-77. It as the fourth among the forwards, blocked shots (80), on average, a career best 20: 29 instead of ice, ranked sixth among NHL centers face play-offs taken (1.496), gaining a career high 57.4% of them and recorded 124 hits65 arguments, three short-handed goals and a plus-24 rating. He also contributed on the offensive side, scored 41 goals.Kesler finished as runner-up the previous two seasons to Datsyuk. Toews, finalist for the first time, took 1653 face play-offs, second in the NHL and won a League-best of 937 (56.7%). Its 95 arguments also placed second in the NHL, and ended with a rating of plus-25.Members of the Association of professional hockey writers vote on the award before the start of the playoffs. The top three vote-getters are announced as finalists. The winner is announced on June 22 in the annual NHL awards show in Las Vegas If Datsyuk is the winner, he would be the first player with a four-peat since Bob Gainey won 1977-78, 1980-81, in the first four seasonsthe award was presented. "I have good competition, told the Detroit Free Press."Always every year is harder and harder, but I'm glad the nomination. Is the first step. It was the third overtime win in Boston in the series, including game 5 on Saturday night, when Horton scored 9: 03 of the second extra time ".He has been saving for seven years, right? " Bruins coach Claude Julien said with a smile. "Then he had a lot of game-winning goals in it."A year after reaching the end of the Conference, the Canadiens were eliminated by the Bruins for the second time in three years. "We are disappointed with the final result, but you have to give credit to the Bruins, Canadiens coach Jacques Martin said. "Yes, we had some injuries. We lost some soldiers, but those who were dresses gave a very good effort. "Carey price (FSY) made 30 saves and Yannick Weber, Tomas Plekanec (FSY) and P.K. Subban (FSY) scored for the Canadiens. Montreal erased deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 but never led in the game.Montreal won the last of their Stanley Cup NHL Championships record of 23 in 1993 — the longest title drought in franchise history-decorated most of hockey. "It is hard to win a trophy," said Subban.I mean, you never know when is your year. But this year won't be our ".Johnny Boychuk (FSY) and Mark Recchi (FSY) marked the first 5: 33 to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead. But Weber made it 2-1 with a power play goal in the first and Plekanec it tied in second with an unattended goal, short-handed after Chris Kelly (FSY) scored with just under 10 minutes to give Boston a 3-2, Subban it tied in two minutes late — again on the power play. The Bruins were 0-for-21 on the power of the game in the series. But no matter. The Canadiens won the first two games in Boston to steal the home-ice advantage and put the Bruins into a hole that had never been able to recover from before. Boston went 0-26 in series after falling behind 2-0 But the Bruins came back to win three straight — including the first two in Montreal and then game 5 at home. The Habs won Game 6 on Tuesday night to force a seventh game in Boston The Bruins squandered another advantage home Wednesday, skipping out on a slap shot by Boychuk and a wrister by Recchi from the slot that beat the price of hand stick.Martin had her wait time, and the Canadiens seemed to regroup. After Michael Ryder (FSY) was expelled by interception, Weber scored a power play goal, converting a cross-ice pass from the first half Michael Cammalleri (FSY).Five minutes into the second, with the Canadiens down a man, Plekanec stole the puck from Recchi and broke the wrist he passed alone Thomas and tie it 2-2. But Kelley slid a rebound under price with 9: 44 left in the third put Boston back to the top.Montreal tied it after Patrice Bergeron (FSY) was expelled by whacking James Wisniewski (FSY) in the face with 2: 37 left. The Canadiens set up the power game in Boston and worked the puck around Subban, who slapped it over the glove of Thomas.Notes: Lucic was back in the game, a day after he was given a major for boarding and a lack of game in game 6. ... Canadiens Center Jeff Halpern (FSY) went to the ice after taking a shoulder Andrew reference (FSY) in the corner with 1: 30 left in the third. He was an instructor and was helped off the ice, seemingly woozy. ... TV showed Thomas and price play each other with their sticks as they left the ice at the end of the second period.

By Darryl Dyck, AP

The Canucks Christian Ehrhoff, left and Alex Burrows celebrate first period goal against the Blackhawks ' Burrows in Vancouver.

Alex Burrows (FSY) would have any other way. For him, finally knocking off the defending Stanley Cup champion makes the victory that much sweeter.Burrows scored his second goal 5: 22 in an extraordinary that he began to sweat in the penalty box, and the Canucks avoided a collapse in playoff history by knocking out Chicago in the first round with a 2-1 victory on Tuesday night. In a game full of drama and playoff ghosts for a Canucks team that had been knocked out of the last two playoffs by the Chicago Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews (FSY) scored his first shorthanded goal with 1: 56 left to force overtime. But a few minutes after Roberto Luongo (FSY) slid in to steal Sharp Patrick (FSY) on the power play, Burrows took advantage of a turnover of Chris Campoli (FSY) and fired a slap shot over the right shoulder of rookie goalie Chicago Corey Crawford (FSY) ".I think she feels even better to get it done this way, "said Burrows, who opened the 2: 43 points in the game. "We don't make it easy on ourselves."If the goal was the game redemption for Burrows, who failed to convert a penalty shot 21 seconds in the third period, the game was a resurrection to Luongo. Pulled games 4 and 5 and benched to start game 6 after being lit up and knocked out by Chicago two seasons followed, he finished with 31 saves. "The last three or four games that I feel that I tested, "Luongo said. "You always say in difficult times that is when you see the true character of someone, so obviously it was a big game today in my career."

Canucks win series 4-3.

Game 1: Vancouver 2, Chicago 0

Game 2: Vancouver 4, Chicago 3

Game 3: Vancouver 3, Chicago 2

Game 4: Chicago 6, Vancouver 2

Game 5: Chicago 5, Vancouver 0

Game 6: Chicago 4, Vancouver 3 (OT)

Game 7: Vancouver 2, Chicago 1 (OT)

Despite losing, the same could be said for Crawford. The rookie made 36 saves and was the best match of the player, while Chicago himself with a handful of highlight stops before Burrows hit a puck past him rolling. "" He was a warrior out there, "said Toews. He fought as hard as anyone. Everyone wants to talk about Luongo all the time and the superstars, but for a rookie goaltender was awesome and I can't say enough about it. "Vancouver won the first three games before the current champion roared back with three straight victories, threatening to spoil the season Presidents Trophy winner of Canucks, becoming only the fourth time in NHL history to erase a 2-0 series deficit. Instead, Vancouver will host the Nashville in the second round. "We needed to overcome this hump, "said Ryan Kesler (FSY), who set up the first goal. "It was very sweet to beat them ... I can't describe the feeling. "Burrows could not have imagined feeling if Chicago scored after he took a penalty of 24 seconds into overtime. But Luongo made a slider to take a backdoor net empty Patrick Sharp ".I thanked him for that after the game, "Burrows said. "It was the worst place to be, in the penalty box, but Lou did a great defense and I was able to return".Crawford made several brilliant stops to keep it close. He turned away Burrows shot penalty and made three great saves more with 5 minutes left, denying Chris Higgins cut alone in tight, sprawling stop Burrows on the rebound and then dip his stomach to attempt sharp angle glove Kesler a empty net. Toews tied it three minutes later. With Vancouver on a power play with the chance to finally extend their advantage home, Toews split the defence off a rush 2-on-4 to set up Marian Hossa (FSY) to have a chance in front. He was stopped, but Toews lifted the rebound over Luongo sprawled ".Not a lot of guys in the League can do that, "said Luongo. "That's why he won the Conn Smythe, the MVP of the Olympic Games. It was a massive part by he shorthanded and that is why he is the leader of the team. "Blackhawks, who were forced to launch several protagonists of the winning team of the Cup to stay under the salary cap, barely got out of the regular season, losing their last game and they need help on the last day only playoffs. They seemed a seed No. 8 sometimes while losing the first three games, but remembered the four past the defending champions. "I don't think anyone would have believed that he would have returned and forced a game 7, Crawford said. "It could have been our way."Notes: Vancouver D Sami Salo (FSY) did not play after getting hurt early in game 6. Keith Ballard (FSY), zero games the last two a surprise, took his place alongside Andrew Alberts (FSY) on a third pairing. ... Chicago moved Brouwer to Dave Bolland (FSY), checking line after Bryan Bickell (FSY) had surgery to repair a tendon sliced Monday. ... Fernando Pisani (FSY) and Markus Kruger were back training in Chicago, while 6-foot-8 John Scott (FSY), who played 59 seconds in game 6, was scratched. ... Vancouver had 12 players with previous experience of game 7. Chicago had five. ... Chicago is the seventh time in NHL history to force a game 7 after falling behind 3-0.

Preview: Canucks sound on paper, but predators will prevail on the ice

Physical presence of Shea Weber will be important as Nashville takes on Vancouver global no. 1.

By Frederick Breedon, Getty Images

Physical presence of Shea Weber will be important as Nashville takes on Vancouver global no. 1.

How they got here: The predators took down the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in six games to reach the second round for the first time in franchise history. Vancouver needed an overtime goal by Alex Burrows in game 7 to overturn the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks.Station series: 2-2. Total goals: Nashville 8-6goalkeepers: Roberto Luongo, Vancouver (4-3, 2.97 goals-against average,. 907 save percentage) vs Pekka Rinne in Nashville (4-2, 3.29.876). With the victory in game 7 of Luongo, he finally won over the fans of Vancouver? Probably not. This will take the Stanley Cup. But beat Chicago probably adds another layer of confidence for a goalie who already has one Olympic gold and two World Championships. Rinne is a finalist for the Vezina trophy, but it can/should be better than it was in the first round. He has the ability to steal a game or a series.Story line: Before you start feeling sorry for the predators, looking for the series of the season and look at the statistics that show the power game of Nashville was as effective as Vancouver in the first round. With the NHL's top defensive pairing in Shea Weber and Ryan Suter, the predators play a defensive style that is supposed to be effective at playoff time. Nashville is supposed to be the team that strives to score, but in the first round, the predators found the net more often than Vancouver. Forces the Canucks is that they have top 3 offensive stars series Henrik and Daniel Sedin and Ryan Kesler. Nashville has no flag companies with a lot of skill. The predators won confidence with the victory of the first inning, but the Canucks won their merit by survivors of the series Blackhawks. That seemed to be a cage match. The Canucks are above average of good to excellent in all aspects of the game.Who's hot: Jordin Tootoo Nashville right has five points in six games and impressed the hockey world with his level of play. He now is a plague that learned to play under control. What is not: Vancouver Christian Ehrhoff Defender. If you're playing almost 23 minutes per game, you shouldn't have worst plus-minus of the team (minus-4)injuries: Vancouver, C Manny Malhotra (eye) is out of season. D Sami Salo (leg) is questionable for game 1. Nashville RW Martin Erat (upper body) hopes to play in game 1.Time: If you're comparing rosters, Vancouver is easy to choose. But if you watched Nashville playing regularly, you realize that predators compete aggressively for any team in the League. It is difficult to connect passes against them. Take Nashville in a six-game upset. For more information about reprints & permissions, visit our FAQ. To report corrections and clarifications, contact standards Editor Brent Jones. By Kevin Hoffman, US Presswire

The flyers will have to find to find a way to shut down dangerous Thomas Vanek scorer Sabres.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Buffalo Sabreswhat is happening: Ville Leino Philadelphia scored in overtime in game 6 to tie the series.Goalkeepers: Brian Boucher of Philadelphia (3-1, 2.12 goals-against average,. 935 save percentage) vs Ryan Miller of the Buffalo (3-3, 2.61.925). The flyers used three goalkeepers, but solid performance from Boucher in game 6 relief seems to give you the edge to be game 7 starter. In theory, the Sabres have the edge on the net.Story line: Once down 3-2 Philadelphia seems to have the edge in the House. But Buffalo played better on the road this season. If Chris Pronger is healthy enough to play full time, help the cause of handouts. He played only on the power play in game 6. The flyers want to get out of the box, because the power game of the Sabres have been better than theirs. Philadelphia wants to neutralize Thomas Vanek, Buffalo's most dangerous scorer and also must deal with the return of Derek Roy.Who's hot: Flyers Center Claude Giroux has seven points in six games, including four points in games 5 and 6. Who is not: Buffalo Center Brad Boyes, picked to help the offense, has not registered a point in the series. Wounds: Philadelphia, C Jeff Carter (knee) won't play game 7. Buffalo, Tim Connolly will sit after being pushed head for bets on game 6; Game demonstrably Roy (quadriceps) for the first time since December, will return to action; It is expected that RW Jason Pominville (leg) to lose the game. D Shoane Morrison, RW Mike Grier and RW Patrick Kaleta are daily. Bottom line: For the Sabres win, Miller will be your best player. Vancouver Canucks vs Chicago Blackhawkswhat is happening: Once trailing 3-0, the Blackhawks have won three in a row to tie the series.Goalkeepers: Vancouver Roberto Luongo (3-3, 3.45, no.888) vs. Chicago Corey Crawford (3-3, 2.27.922). Crawford has a save percentage of. 946 three last games. By Rob Grabowski, US Presswire

Chicago Dave Bolland has put points and helped limit the Sedin twins since returning to action in game 4.

Story line: The Blackhawks momentum and as defending champions, have a recent history of success in important games. They try to get defensemen Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook on the ice against the Sedins whenever possible. The Blackhawks will put heavy traffic in front of the net of Luongo and will be shot high. The Canucks have to get Crawford moving across the network. He has been fantastic when he has been able to get the squares for the shooters.Who's hot: Chicago Dave Bolland has two goals, four assists and a plus-6 since returning from a concussion in game 4. He was on the ice many times against Sedin twins. What is not: Daniel and Henrik Sedin are a combined minus-12 the last three games. Henrik has an assist in that span, two goals from Daniel. Injuries: Vancouver D Sami Salo (reserved) is daily. Chicago, RW Bryan Bickell (wrist surgery Monday) is six to eight weeks. Bottom line: If the Blackhawks can keep the Sedins moderate, they can transform the Canucks fourth NHL team to lose a series after winning the first three games. For more information about reprints & permissions, visit our FAQ. Atlanta Thrashers right wing Blake Wheeler, shooting in Toronto Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer during a February 27 game, had 18 goals this season, the most for any player on the U.S. squad.

Meanwhile, Americans have a roster without a single 20 NHL scorer. This is not the first time that the Americans failed to land some of his players greater visibility. Canadians are simply more willing to represent their country than Americans? It is much more complicated than that, says Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke, who helped choose the u.s. team. "Walked a fine line here because Canada has a deeper pool of talent, "said Burke. "They do not touch the same guys every April. We tend to invite the same guys. Phil Kessel has gone into this tournament twice. I can't ask him to go to each year. "Although the Americans reached 20% in the NHL for the first time this season, their player pool is still less than half of Canadian pool size. This regular season, 234 Americans played at least one NHL game, vs. 521 Canadians. "I wish more players to go to the World Championship, and would like our best players to go more often, "Burke said. "What is going to change it in the United States is forecast. Our talent pool is deeper and wider than ever and is going (expand), and that is the main single factor. "Burke said Canada recruitment is aided by the players of the tournament on television coverage. Canadian newspapers and websites also give him good play. In the United States, coverage is minimal. But this may change for Americans because Versus plans to televise games this season. Versus airs all three preliminary U.S. games — vs. Austria (30 April), Norway (May 2) and Sweden (May 4) — and then will broadcast games U.S. qualification or relegation round. Jim Johannson hockey USA "I think it's a mentality (different) in Canada," he said. "Guys feel pressure because they don't know if they will have another chance because Canada has so many players".In the current squad U.S., Atlanta Thrashers forward Blake Wheeler had the most goals in the NHL this season with 18. But Johansson hopes to add some markers of first-round playoff losers. "I look at the cast and say that if we can fill some points here with some offensive players-producing then I like our team, "said Johannson. "When you fill in a line, there are plenty of guys who can do what is asked of them."With a smaller pool, Americans are hit harder by Canada contract problems. Players will not play when they are going into free agency because they can't get enough insurance to cover a possible career-ending injury. "There is a business side of this that cannot be ignored, said Johannson. Americans would add Defender Phoenix Coyotes Keith Yandle, but he is a restricted free agent looking for a significant increase. "You want to scold people not to come, but you have to be careful, "Burke said. "If a guy play at twice the World Championships and the Olympic Games, and may ask you to do?"Players who are not going this year did in the past. David Backes and Zach Parise passed three times, and TJ Trips has flooded twice.Burke said he spoke with Kessel on him and told him that he believed it was reasonable for a player to go to every other year.I told him, I hope that he would be next year, but he won't be able to go because we want to be in the playoffs, "said Burke for more information about reprints & permissions, visit our FAQ. Flyers must find the remedy for goaltender strategy fingers crossed

Should not be a goaltender controversy for the Philadelphia Flyers in game 7 Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres. Brian Boucher deserves to start game 7 Tuesday night, but the leaflets probably will need to pursue a goalie No. 1 this summer.

But no matter what happens with the fliers from the rest of the way, if you can guess that Ed Snider Spectacor President will be wondering why his talented team is again in the playoffs with questions about his goalkeeper. How long the handouts were goalkeeper on the carousel? He is pushing 15 years since respected Ron Hextall was Philadelphia's primary goalkeeper. Since then, the flyers have tried John Vanbiesbrouck, Roman Cechmanek Robert Esche, Antero Niittymaki, Martin Biron, Boucher, Michael Leighton and Sergei Bobrovsky. Each had a moment or two, but none has inspired confidence over a long period. It seemed as if the flyers can make a move in the summer, but they don't have much cap space to make a big splash. Presumably GM Paul Holmgren considered their options on the trade deadline and decided, given the situation of the CAP, there was the right fit. This summer, the flyers still doesn't have much budget flexibility, but it seems as if they would stabilize in your goal. They cannot enter into another season with a strategy of fingers crossed. Perhaps they keep Boucher as the backup because it seems to be strong coming off the bench, and he has always been a loyal soldier. Perhaps they keep Bobrovsky as backup, giving you more time to learn, without the pressure of being no. 1. But they have to do something this summer, don't they? The free-agent market will have veteran Tomas Vokoun and Ilya Bryzgalov, 42-year-old Dwayne Roloson. Another intriguing possibility is Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who won a Stanley Cup. Depending on what happens with Evgeni Nabokov, he also seems to be a possibility. However, I hope that the flyers Boucher will be a hot goalie for five or six weeks. This is what the strategy of fingers crossed is all.For more information about reprints & permissions, visit our FAQ. To report corrections and clarifications, contact standards Editor Brent Jones. Pulled after yielding four goals on 14 shots in game 5, Fleury couldn't protect a head start and struggled again when Pittsburgh looked to have regained momentum. The goalkeeper of Pittsburgh was spectacular in game 1, providing a 32-save performance overhead that produced his fifth career postseason blocking. He has struggled on losses of three of the penguins and allowed the lightning rally deficits of two goals in two games that Pittsburgh went on to win.Still, Fleury expects the penguins to regroup and win game 7. "We know we can play, "said Fleury. "I'm still positive and I think we can do it."Goal of go-ahead Downie came moments after Roloson rejected point-blank shots by Maxime Talbot (FSY) and Pascal Dupuis (FSY). The goalkeeper of Tampa Bay was at his best in the second period, when the lightning killed four penalties and failed Chris Conner (FSY Pittsburgh) to score on a penalty shot that would have tied the score.Malone beat Fleury, who had 17 saves in a breakaway Republic to make it 4-2 in the middle of the third ".We stayed with our game plan and did what we had to do to win a hockey game, "said Roloson, who rebounded from giving up a goal in overtime that clinched the game 4 to stop 31 shots on Saturday and continue to overshadow Fleury on Monday night. "We don't change anything."Lightning goaltender stopped two shots by Talbot and a rebound by Dupuis before Downie scored seconds later. "Goaltenders must be pending in the playoffs. ... "He steps up to the challenge."Stamkos, Simon Gagne (FSY) and Pavel Kubina (FSY) scored two goals in a 5–2 game lightning when Boucher encouraged his players to shoot the puck more in the hope of increasing opportunities for rebounds. Canucks GM blaming referees for the collapse of Vancouver

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks are one win away from making history. By the Vancouver Canucks, he feels like it is its repetition. The Canucks' Dan Hamhuis, left, gets checked by the Blackhawks' Ben Smith during Game 6 on Sunday in Chicago. By Nam y. huh, AP

The Canucks Dan Hamhuis, left, gets checked by Blackhawks Ben Smith during game 6 on Sunday at Chicago.

If the Canucks intend to get bounced from the playoffs by the Blackhawks for one season in third place in succession — and enter the NHL history books for blowing a lead series 3-0 — they will do it with your General Manager and his officiating explode goalkeeper franchise stopping shots. Before a decisive game 7 on Tuesday night and the possibility of becoming only the fourth team in NHL history to lose a series after winning the first three games, GM Mike Gillis claimed calls were unilateral and coach Alain Vigneault said Roberto Luongo (FSY) its a game starter after benching him.The first part may have been designed to take the focus off the second, although Gillis claimed that he was just pointing out a discrepancy of sanctions and what he believed were "six or seven" calls missed Sunday's loss in overtime 4-3 in game 6. Gillis cited a series of statistics diferentesmas Chicago has a series of 27-16 in plays of energy — 22-12 over the last four games. "You can say it's sour grapes," said Gillis. "I don't know how to explain this discrepancy. ... I'm very confident of playing the same way and is equal, then we will win (game 7). "Vancouver players were not willing to talk about the rant of Gillis, instead having some positive aspects of game 6, after the Canucks were outscored 12-2 in the previous two games. "All the pressure on them," Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane (FSY), said. "They are up 3-0, they are the first seed in the West, kinda predicted to win the Cup this year. We really didn't have any pressure on us. You hope you have a mental edge, but who really knows? "

Vancouver vs. Chicago

what is happening: Once trailing 3-0, the Blackhawks have won three in a row to tie the series.

Goalkeepers: Vancouver Roberto Luongo (3-3, 3.45, no.888) vs. Chicago Corey Crawford (3-3, 2.27.922). Crawford has a save percentage of. 946 three last games.

Plot: The Blackhawks momentum and as defending champions, have a recent history of success in important games. They try to get defensemen Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook on the ice against the Sedins whenever possible. The Blackhawks will put heavy traffic in front of the net of Luongo and will be shot high. The Canucks have to get Crawford moving across the network. He has been fantastic when he has been able to get the squares for the shooters.

Who's hot: Chicago Dave Bolland has two goals, four assists and a plus-6 since returning from a concussion in game 4. He was on the ice many times against Sedin twins.

What is not: Daniel and Henrik Sedin are a combined minus-12 the last three games. Henrik has an assist in that span, two goals from Daniel.

Bottom line: If the Blackhawks can keep the Sedins moderate, they can transform the Canucks fourth NHL team to lose a series after winning the first three games.

--By Kevin Allen

The Blackhawks seem to have an advantage over the keeper who will face, assuming Vigneault was telling the truth when he said he would coach The Canucks deceived Luongo reporters before rookie Cory Schneider (FSY) shocking starter game 6 ahead of Luongo, who was named a finalist for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goalie Friday. Luongo, pulled games 4 and 5 and lit by Blackhawks playoffs the last three, came after Schneider tight until giving up the tying goal on a penalty shot early in the third period. When Ben Smith (FSY) lifted a rebound over Luongo sprawled in overtime, Schneider was again on the bench after getting intravenous fluids. Schneider said he was fine to play game 7, but Vigneault insisted that the decision to start Luongo had already been made before the game. "You can't worry about what happened, the last three games the same way that Chicago didn't worry about what happened in the first three, "said Luongo. "It would be easy for us to obtain low now, but I don't think now is the time to feel sorry for ourselves. This is the time to roll up your sleeves and get to work ".The current Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks are just happy to be playing a game 7 — something they avoided during their Cup run last season. Chicago made its way to the playoffs, losing their last game and rely on aid to clinch the eighth and final seed in the West. "There have been some instances of this year when we seem to be down and out, and throughout the season, said Kane. "It shows a lot about this group, the pride that we have."They will have to complete the return without advancing Bryan Bickell (FSY), which has two goals and two assists in five games, but is six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a tendon in the wrist that was torn apart in game 2. At least they still have Dave Bolland (FSY), whose game 4 comeback from a concussion coincided with the disappearance of Canucks forward Daniel and Henrik Sedin (FSY).The twins won the last two NHL scoring titles and recorded nine points in the first three games. Once Bolland returned, however, the Sedins have three points, a classification under-13 and were on the ice for game 6 winner of Smith. Bolland has two goals, six points and a plus-six rating. "I don't think I have a formula like math, "says Bolland. "They are just two ordinary players, right?"

By James Guillory, US Presswire

Nicklas Lidstrom is a finalist for the Norris trophy for the 11th time in the last 13 seasons. He has won six times since 2001.

As a result, he is a finalist again for the Norris Trophy as top defenceman. He is joined by the winner of the 2008-09 Zdeno Chara (Boston Bruins) and Shea Weber. He put together a streak of 11-point game and had his first career hat-trick for the Central Division-leading Red Wings. Lidstrom won the Norris trophy six of the last nine seasons and was a finalist in 11 of the past 13 seasons. If he wins this season, he'll tie Doug Harvey more trophies for second behind Bobby Orr (eight). "It's always an honor to be nominated "Lidstrom told the Detroit Free Press. "I was nominated last year, so I guess that means you had a solid season."This means even more as you get older. You appreciate it more. Joe Thornton sharks celebrates after scoring the game-winning goal against the Los Angeles Kings in overtime of game 6 of their playoff series in the first round in Los Angeles.

His instinct proved right and he scored 2: 22 into the extra session Monday night to take a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings-San Jose and send the sharks to a win in the first round series. You saw this series, strange things happen in front of the net. He just spit very well and I just swallowed it, "said Thornton. "I was just in the right place at the right time. He felt great. "Kyle Wellwood, Jason Demers (FSY) and Dany Heatley (FSY) also scored for the sharks, who wore the all-California series 4-2 and avoid a game 7 in San Jose. "It is good that we don't have to play Wednesday night. We can rest, "said Thornton. "But we still have much work to do. This was a tough series. "Justin Williams (FSY), Ryan Smyth (FSY) and rookie Trevor Lewis (FSY) scored for the Kings, who lost in the opening round for the second consecutive year and won just one playoff series since his run to the Stanley Cup in 1993 with Wayne Gretzky (FSY).

Sharks win series 4-2.

Game 1: San Jose 3, Los Angeles 2 (OT)

Game 2: Los Angeles 4, San Jose 0

Game 3: San Jose 6, Los Angeles 5 (OT)

Game 4: San Jose 6, Los Angeles 3

Game 5: Los Angeles 3, San Jose 1

Game 6: San Jose 4, Los Angeles 3 (OT)

"Out in the first round is really disappointing," defensor said Jack Johnson (FSY).Gretzky watched the game, but even having the superstar retired per side couldn't push the Kings to a win. Instead, they lost all three home games in the series and all three extra games — such as at the end of ' 93 when Los Angeles lost three straight OT games for Montreal. "We had an advantage of 4-0 at home in game 3 and two other games were OT and right there," said forward Dustin Brown (FSY). "The difference between winning and losing is that small. They found ways to achieve goals in the OT and we didn't. "Antti Niemi (FSY) made 26 saves for the sharks after being pulled in two of the last three games. "We had the lead three times, but they turned on us, "Heatley said. "Who kill penalty 5 minutes was huge for us. That's sometimes how hockey works, you do a good job like that and you get rewarded in the end. "Jonathan Quick stopped 31 shots for Los Angeles. He gave up 16 goals in three home games of the team. "We believe fully that could have won it. That is why we are so disappointed, "defensor said Drew Doughty (FSY).Jamie McGinn (FSY sharks) received a major 5 minutes to load Brad Richardson and a lack of automatic game at 16: 37 of the third period, giving the Kings a power play for the final minutes of regulation. "We don't do anything easy, "said sharks coach Todd McLellan. Kings had four shots on goal, including two by Brown that Niemi stopped to send the game into overtime for the third time in the series."Once we kill it off, we thought we had a good chance and we'll get the momentum after killing it, "said Thornton. "We did, and we ended up winning the series after that."The Kings opened the overtime with 1: 37 left on penalty of McGinn, but cannot shot a goal ".We didn't get many opportunities, "said Johnson. "They were very aggressive, which forced it to make moves a little faster than we wanted."It wasn't long after Thornton found the left side of the open NET and scored the winning goal, sending him riding on the ice in celebration. "He hit a skate and bounced off his tape and I got caught out of position, said a quick discouraged. "If we played a little better, I could spend more time. We feel like we gave them some games earlier in the series ".The Kings rallied for a third time to tie the game at 3-3 in the third period. Lewis scored his first playoff goal of his career in a rebound of power play at 11: 39 with Demers off for interference.Heatley's goal off the right post on a play broken by Kings gave San Jose its third lead of the game, 3-2 at 8: 48 of the third period. The Kings tied the game 2-2 in the rebound of Smyth's goal 18 seconds in the third period.Demers caught fast crease put San Jose ahead 2-1 at 16: 52 of the second period. The Kings tied the game 1-1 when Williams fired in a rebound on the power play at 13: 27 of the second. Thornton received a double-minor for high sticking after he hit Richardson in the mouth. Richardson wears a visor, but he pointed to his mouth and caught something off the ice.San Jose took a 1-0 in the first goal of the playoffs, Wellwood at 2: 58 of the middle period. Quick lost his stick and did an swiping motion to his right to recover it, but he didn't and Wellwood was top shelf off Thornton's helper.Notes: Los Angeles was 5 to 24 on the power of the game in the series. ... Kings D Rob Scuderi briefly left the game in the second period after taking a skate blade near his eye in a collision with the Sharks D Niclas Wallin (FSY) along the boards. ... There were no goals or penalties in the first period, when the sharks outshot the Kings 4-5. ... The Kings fell to 11-6 in game 6s.

Bruins get past Canadiens in two OTs, take 3-2 series lead

Goal (18) Nathan Horton in the second overtime propeled the Bruins to a 2-1 victory in game 5 over the Canadiens on Saturday. The Bruins lead the Eastern Conference Series 3-2.

Coach Claude Julien knows how hard it can be closed. "I think we experienced last year," he said after the victory of 2-1, double-overtime of Boston Saturday night. "You don't want to take it, but we know how difficult it is. We have to go to Montreal knowing that we have to be ready. Montreal will come out and play the game of your life. "The Bruins won their second overtime game in three days when Nathan Horton (FSY) scored at 9: 03 of the second extra session. But they remind one of the darkest snippets in club history when they lost four straight games to the Philadelphia Flyers — and squandered a 3-0 in game 7 — last year in the Eastern Conference semifinals. "We learned over the past year, you cannot take any leadership," said Milan Lucic (FSY), who had seven shots after taking only five in the first four games. On the winning goal, Montreal goaltender Carey price (FSY) stopped Andrew Ference pulse (FSY), shot 30 feet but couldn't control the rebound. Horton put the puck into the open right side of the net for his second goal of the playoffs. "I saw the rebound off, "said Horton. "It was as if in slow motion. He was just sitting there. "The victory was the first, the home team in the first round, the series ".I felt confident, "said Julien. "I liked our composure in overtime. We were making some plays this strong. We really don't panic. "The Bruins, who have won three straight games, can end the series Tuesday night in Montreal."Playing at home Tuesday in front of our fans, I hope that will make a difference, "said Canadiens coach Jacques Martin in game 4, also in Montreal, Boston won 5-4 when Michael Ryder (FSY) scored at 1: 59 of overtime after the Bruins overcame deficits of 1-03-1 and 4-3.

Bruins lead 3-2.
